Late night, early flight
Sunday, August 15, 2004
A taxi is coming for us in just over 3 hours to take us to Gatwick for an early flight to Malaga. Laura has managed to take a week off so we're taking our first summer holiday as a family in over two years. We've managed a winter break - skiing - for the last three years but we have shared the sun by the sea or the pool since a trip to France in 2002.
Last year Laura took the kids to Portugal for a fortnight and I stayed at home trying to find some work and painting the hallway and stairs.
I've decided that next year I'm going to take the kids to Spain for a month. The flights at this time of year are the most expensive part of a trip when you're flying three kids around so it makes sense to stay as long as possible when you get there.
So, it's only for a week but we all need it. I'll have to do quite a bit of work while I'm away but a couple of hours each morning should bring me up to speed with the things I need to finish.
I have one of those Vodafone 3G mobile connect cards so I'll have to check what sort of reception I get in Almunecar. I've checked the wi-fi hotspots and that doesn't seem an option. Just the sort of challenge to get the holiday started on the right foot.
My parents are staying in the house while we're away so we return to a full fridge and papers and a tended garden. Now that's a real holiday.
