Yates downs Burgess

The serendipity of bookshops continues. I've started the Collected Stories of Yates that I discovered yesterday and it has the feel of something I need to read right now, especially after the 'up-my-arse' confessions of Burgess. Where Burgess shoves his style and learning in your face like a constipated autodidact, Yates is content to tell a story and let the content dictate what words to use and how to use them: There's no trumpet fanfare when all that' s needed is a penny whistle.
So there.
So there.
