Atlantis - barely afloat
Saturday, October 30, 2004
Well, it's been three weeks now for the show here in the UK. Perhaps the worst thing Sky did was schedule it to follow straight on after Stargate SG1. There's no doubt that Atlantis suffers by comparison.
The characters have yet to dominate creaky plots in the way that they can in the original series. And episode three had a very creaky plot - a sort of Forbidden Planet meets an early Star Trek storyline. Shadow energy! Ooh. There wasn't even much in the way of humour to point up the hokery of the thing. And the 'smartest man on the planet' (which planet?) is just a pain.
I've already given up on the new series of Battlestar Galactica for the same sort of reasons: at the moment I'm staying with Atlantis only because of Stargate SG1.
