John Peel Dead

Tuesday, October 26, 2004

Just had an alert from 'Broadcast' announcing that John Peel has died after a heart attack. I remember when listening to his show was something daring: I have memories of talking about it in the late 60s when I was not yet 12 and still living in Edinburgh. The last link to Radio 1 as it was - before people like Steve Wright and Bruno Brookes or whoever took over.

His voice was one of the distinctive radio voices of good music. I always think of him and (Whispering) Bob Harris as two of a kind. Nothing strident but always persuasive.
