Words, work, and shingles

I've been so involved in getting words done for the NaNoWriMo thing that I've neglected this blog for almost a week. Shame on me.
In addition to the 'novel', however, I've been lucky enough to get a couple of new accounts for my business writing at the same time as my regular accounts have been putting more work my way. That means I've been doing a lot of work over the past couple of weeks on projects ranging from a brochure for a signage company to a case study for an IT consultancy. Switching from fiction to a brochure and then to a press release and then to a technical fact sheet is a great test of the ability to create different styles.
As long as the invoices get paid then I know I'm passing the test.
My youngest daughter - Kirstie - has contracted shingles so is off school for a week. That always has an impact on my work as I'm conscious of her all the time while I work in my study. I am a noisy writer, strange as that may sound. I like to get up and talk out loud, seeing how phrases and sentences sound. And I tend to use the whole house when I'm here alone. Having someone else around, however much I love them, has a constricting effect.
Children never get sick during school holidays. That's just one of the basic facts of parenthood.
