Elevated expectations disappointed

'A Minute too Late' was disappointing. This was largely due to my heightened expectations, although I did sense that Simon and his fellow compliciteurs performed with a less than normal conviction. I got a feeling they knew this was a revival and there was little to prove. The fact that people were laughing from the moment they appeared on stage meant they had to do nothing to win over the audience. A curate's egg of a show, which did nothing to convince Laura of the genius of Complicite and nothing to diminish my enthusiasm for their other work.
But just going to the theatre is such a treat and I prefer it to any trip to the cinema. Having live actors in front of you makes it all seem more inclusive than the cinema. You feel part of an audience. Watching a film you really wish everyone else would just stay at home.
