Election Night

Thursday, May 05, 2005

Direct from the bleeding edge of democracy here is election night - live.

First result in - Sunderland South as always. Labour hold it but there is much talk of Labour not winning by a huge margin. However. given that the turnout in the constituency was only 49% and that a low turnout is usually bad news for Labour, the fact that they held on with a majority reduced by only a couple of thousand seems to indicate that things may be ok for Labour. The BBC pundits believe, on the other hand, that this indicates a swing to the Tories of about 4% and a final Labour majority of only maybe 50. We'll see.
