Binger and whinger

For a slightly different take on the points I was making in the previous post, can I point you to William Leith's 'diary' in this week's New Statesman. The author of 'The Hungry Years' discusses what Christmas is like for the binge drinker or eater. He finishes with:
If you do bad stuff and you want to stop doing it, you really have to work out why you were doing it in the first place, which takes time.
I used to believe this and that's why I spent a lot of time and money visiting therapists. This is the nub of the therapy vs. NLP debate. Can you change before you understand why you are like you are? I used to think no but now I think yes. But that may be a result of desperation. Be that as it may, here's how Leith finishes his piece:
So if you're reading this having failed yet again to give up smoking, or drinking, or whatever, sit down and think about what you're really frightened of. And the answer is always the same. It is: yourself.
