Man flu strikes at heart of new regimen

Monday, January 09, 2006

Now this is a bit of a recurring theme. When I make a decision to change some of the more destructive aspects of my life, such as procrastination, a lack of exercise, nightly bottles of wine, and an obsession with time wasted, my body responds by serving up a heady dose of 'man flu'. There is obviously some conspiracy going on here, with my subconscious convincing my respiratory system that by grinding down my new-found optimism and sparkly-eyed view of the life that would be made possible through sobriety and acting on my intentions, they can return to the safe world of depression and misery.

And it's not paranoia: this happens in warm weather, too.

So I'm off to bed to feel sorry for myself.
